Born at a very young age, George began his singing career as a professional boy tenor in a 80-voice men and boy's choir in Greenwich Connecticut. Following several years of church choirs and school and college glee clubs, George discovered barbershopping in 1970 in Salina Kansas. After completing his studies at the University of Kansas, he moved to Denver Colorado in 1973, and immediately joined the Denver Mile High Chapter of barbershoppers. Having already sung lead in previous quartets, George tried tenor in a quartet and enjoyed it. In 1975 fate would strike in the meeting of three other gents from Nebraska - Curt Hutchison, tenor; Larry Wilson, lead; and Terry Heltne, bass. After many late night afteglows woodshedding the baritone part, a lifelong friendship was just beginning. George joined the Classic Collection replacing the bass' father and the rest is history! In Pittsburgh, PA in 1982, the Classic Collection won the coveted GOLD medal and the lifetime honor of International Quartet Champion. Over 1000 performances ensued across the USA, Canada, UK and Europe along with cruises in the Atlantic and Pacific. Five award-winning recordings have captured a lifetime of memories. In 2007, the Classic Collection will be celebrating it's 25th anniversary.
George has been active as an administrator too. In addition to local offices, he served as a Board member and on several committees for the Barbershop Harmony Society. He had chaired several conventions for the Rocky Mountain District. In addition, he's been a very active participant in the Association of International Champions having served as its President, and for over two decades as the Executive Producer of it annual show at the Society's Annual Convention.
Barbershoping is a family affair for the Davidsons. Wife, Sally is a 3-time Regional quartet champion and a 2-time International Chorus Champion. She is currently singing with the Skyline Chorus in Denver. The family's biggest fans are daughters Emily and Marne, two great husbands and five grandchildren. George is recently retired after 33 years as an administrator with Cherry Creek Schools in southeast Denver.
Of course, what could be more special than singing in a quartet with his
son, Mike. With genes from his mom and dad, Mike was born to be a musician
and barbershopper. He has not let anyone down, and his mom and dad have
been his proudest supporters. Now it's time to watch and listen as another
father-son match-up lifts the Nexus sound to new heights.
