A South Dakota boy by birth, Mark moved to glorious Colorado over 20 years
ago. Having sung at a variety of groups while growing up, Mark didn't become
actively involved in singing again until about 8 years ago. Always a big
fan of a cappella music, that's where he was immediately attracted.
Mark joined the Denver Mile High Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society
and quickly became involved in a quartet. Only 4 months into the hobby,
Mark's first quartet placed 4th at the Rocky Mountain District contest
and within the next few years, placed 3rd and then 2nd (in the latter case,
coming in behind Ryan's winning quartet, Crazy Rhythm), and finally 1st
place with NeXus. Mark continues to be actively involved with the Mile
High Chapter and its chorus, the internationally ranked Sound Of The Rockies, where he serves as a Bass Section Leader, has competed with the chorus
at international competitions and has at times been honored to be a featured
soloist.
Mark's involvement with a cappella music has also grown to include his
participation as a founding member of the nationally known group, the Denver A Cappella Project, an 8-part mixed a cappella ensemble, in which he continues to sing bass,
and in which Ryan was also a charter member.
Mark has the great fortune to be able to make singing a cappella music
a family affair. His wife of 17 years, Dianne, also adds her beautiful,
smooth soprano voice to the Denver A Cappella Project. And Mark was able
to sing with his son and fine tenor, Nate, who was the original tenor (and
youngest district champion in history, winning at the age of 15) in NeXus.
Now that George took over the reigns for Nate when high school got too
busy, Mark and Nate continue to sing together in the Sound of the Rockies
chorus.
Mark works for IBM as a Services Executive and resides in Parker, CO, with
Dianne and Nate. Their daughter, Nicole, recently graduated from Colorado
State University in Fort Collins, CO. And yes, she has also been an active
vocal music performer, featuring her lovely alto voice.
Hmmm...a family with a bass, tenor, alto and soprano...wonder what they
do for fun. Music is a wonderful thing…
